    Welcome !

Well we did it, not only do we have 24 very popular public servers, a very promising tournament "Sign up" ! , we are now proud to announce our TF2 Pickup channel !!

What is TF2 pickup? Well, it is 2 teams playing each other, with voice comms and team work, yes team work!! So if you love TF2 and want a fun and organized game, you're in the right place. What next?

    It's very simple:

Who can play? Everyone! This is not just for clannies who want to practice 6v6, it is for anyone who wants to either try out 6v6 style games, meet new people, and generally improve their game. Hopefully the uber elite can teach us peons some new tricks, it can only help to improve the game and community.

We currently have 2 dedicated servers and a 32 slot vent server.

We are also running HLstatsX on pickup servers, were you can track more stats than you can shake a monkey wrench at !

Choosing a map to play couldn't be easier too, type votemap in game and this will bring up a menu for you to choose from, only needing 25% of players to vote, da da map sorted.

All servers are set to tournament mode, have class limits and no crits set.

6v6 Mix - How it works and what to expect

Right, so you've been playing public for many months and you'd like to see what all the fuss is about in these PCW's and MIX's. Well as you know Multiplay now have a pickup channel otherwise known as a mix channel, you can find the channel on quakenet #mpuktf2.pickup.

    Mix Format:

6v6 to be played. What are the limits to 6v6 mixes? Well generally you will see players saying "1ml and 2cl", what this means is 1 medic limit and 2 class limit in any remainding class. So for example you could have 2 soldiers but not 3 and 2 heavys but not 3 and same goes for any other class. Except medic which is 1 ml which means 1 medic only allowed.

For each team depending on what the map is but you would usually have :

    - 1 medic 2 scouts 2 soldiers and 1 demo
    or
    - 1 medic 2 scouts 1 soldier 1 heavy 1 demo
    or
    - 1 medic 2 scouts 2 soldiers 1 heavy

And so on... you can mix it it up by having 1 spy and 1 scout and so on but it starts getting very messy with other players wanting to agree on such a class being played.

    Why are crits off?

Well many players see it as part of the game and the beauty of the game, which I agree it is, however when you want to match bare skill with each player then criticals is not the way forward. Criticals occur originally from a random generator which is a hit or miss chance of achieving, once you've started "owning" it up then your crit chances are increased but the only reason usually your crit chances have increased is due to you receiving a fluke critical in the first place, hence there's hardly any skill involved. Also it can wipe out a whole team especially if it's a heavy weapons with crits, each crit is 105hp (each bullet) now multiply that by 12 and o dear, a whole team could just get wiped, fun for you but not fun for the rest, even your own team as they'd like to end up killing something :p, so in this pickup criticals are off.

Why is it compulsory to be on ventrilo?

Well like any other games there is communication interaction, and in Team fortress 2 its quite critical to call various stuff like "medic's down" when the medic's down means the team knows that they should push! and advance and annihilate everything :D, amongst other things it helps you know where various things are or are going and what is behind you or infront of you and so on.

    Class Guide

What to do in a mix? :

So you've been told to play soldier, what do you do? Well being a soldier or heavy weapons guy usually means your medic should be by your side. Main reason being that your medic wants to stay alive. For him to stay alive he needs his team to defend and protect him at all costs. The medic is the core of your team, as he can give you health. So when your attacking and trying to kill be sure in the back of your mind that you thought about your medic's welfare, i.e. "ok im going after that scout, is someone looking after my medic if i go and attack and leave the medic temporarily? oh yes theres my other soldiering partner he's there with my medic". That sort of thinking. This doesn't neccessarily mean it has to be with soldiers can be with scouts being healed or while being healed they can look around and look after the medic until the soldiers finish in what they are trying to kill and come back to their medic for some health.

So you've opted to play scout, whats your aim? Well to attack and capture the middle point, how does one achieve this? well you can use your aim and raw skill to deathmatch 1 on 1 and then capture the point, you can link up with your other scouting partner and try and make it harder for the opposition to kill you. Or you can do hide and seek scout which is where you only kill when you have to not when you want to and try and capture at the same time. As a scout for me personally i like to hide and seek i'll take out what comes in my path but i wont go for the enemies unless im confident, scouts are important to the team because they can "poke" out and "Nibble" on enemies and end up either injurying them alot or killing them. Usually you should here a scout saying "medic down" on capture point 3 ;)

Why not play the 'other' classes?

Well we could use 2 engineers and play it public style but whats the point? its not 6v6 anymore its 6v4, as two are always defending and if one of the engineers attacks and dies his sentry gun is pretty much a goner. Also you could argue you the case that it would make the game play way too slow and too easy for the other team. For example on cp_granary 6vs4 , the team with 4 only in the middle are not gonna outplay the 6 unless they are really bad. The point to this is that you need to think which are the best classes that can make the biggest impact. So for example if i was playing granary i'd say a soldier or demoman, if i was playing gravelpit then i'd still be thinking soldier/demoman/heavy weapon but also if you had a talented sniper then he'd cause alot of trouble for the opposition. So you've got to think for the welfare of the team as well as your needs.

If you have any question's on a particular class on how to play it on a particular map feel free to drop by in #mpuktf2 or #wotr on quakenet and ask me :)!
